Life coaching changed my life.
Two years ago, when I was just graduating college. I had no idea what I wanted to do in this world. All I knew is that I wanted to make money, not just to pay the bills, but to make sure I could live.
I have cystic fibrosis, and because of that I wanted to be able to make enough money to afford health insurance, so I could afford all of my medications.
But knowing that I wanted money wasn’t good enough. At the time, I was running a social media company. It was something I was good at, and I thought at the time I was going to scale it and run it full time.
It was actually a prospective client that invited me over to a book club that she was attending, where she said we would talk afterward about her using my services.
At the book club, they happened to be reading a book called “The Secret”. A documentary I had watched years before and fell in love with.
After the meeting, I met with the host who told me she was a life coach. We set up an initial meeting to see if we’d be a good fit.
After our first meeting, I knew she would be the perfect life coach. I felt like she was reading my mind, and would really be able to help me with all of the problems I was having. I wanted to find my purpose, I wanted to make money, I wanted to heal from wounds in my past, I wanted to stop being paralyzed by my cystic fibrosis.
Over the next year, I would change more than I would have ever thought. My perspective on everything changed. I entered life coaching hating myself and being depressed, and left feeling in love with myself and peaceful.
Although I didn’t reach all the tangible goals I wanted to within that year, the experience was invaluable and the progress I made was unbelievable.
Here are some ways in which life coaching changed my life:
- Becoming Aligned
The biggest change I noticed in myself when I got a life coach is I became aligned with my Self.
Oftentimes, we aren’t operating from our Inner Being. In fact, most of the time we’re running away from ourselves. We try to numb ourselves from past pains. We try to dull the anxiety of the future.
I know that’s what I was doing.
A good life coach will put you in an empowering and resourceful place, calling you back into yourself and showing you that you have everything in your disposal to turn your life into one that you’ll love to live.
I’m glad to say that’s exactly how I felt when I left my life coaching sessions.
- Mental Wellness
A life coach is not a therapist or a counselor, however, life coaching is great for your mental health. Being in a non-judgmental space that allows you to voice anything you need for your own betterment is freeing beyond what I can describe on this page.
Being able to go into a space weekly and unload everything that was on my chest was life-changing. I never had to worry about backlash, and it allowed me to face some of my inner demons in ways I was never able to before.
We all have things bottled up inside of us that are just waiting to get out. A proper life coach will allow you to be heard, without judgment, and then respond with a statement or questions that will align you with what you need to hear in order to heal from what’s killing you on the inside.
Life coaches help you reach goals, and if better mental health is one of them, it’s entirely plausible to do that in life coaching sessions. However, if you are suffering from mental illness a life coach cannot diagnose or prescribe anything to you. You would need to seek out the proper help if that’s the case.
Being proactive about my mental health has kept me from reentering deep states of depression.
- Different Perspective
A lot of the time we get caught up in our own mess. When something is bothering us so much, sometimes a new perspective is all we need.
Sometimes a new perspective can shed light on that one little thing we were missing. A fresh non-judgmental perspective is very useful when dealing with doing heavy work like life-work.
When we’re diving into our deepest pains and releasing all of our fears, that work can be daunting and having a coach beside you to help you through it and reveal new perspectives is how miracles are created.
A miracle is when something goes from a fearful place to a loving one. A great life coach will be able to help you see when you’re operating out of fear, and hopefully steer you into a direction of love, but remember, a life coach shouldn’t be forceful. A great life coaching session will have you coming to your own realizations.
When I was being life coached, it challenged my perspective. I began to shift from ego thinking to being spiritually driven. There’s a BIG difference. And when your perspective shifts, you can never go back.
- Understanding of Self
We all want clarity, and life coaching can provide that. When you get a deeper understanding of who YOU are. You begin to understand life. You begin to understand that you have more control than you think.
You see that lack is a mentality, and abundance is a state of being.
You see that you have everything you need at any given time to start living a life of joy and abundance. A life coach will unlock this part of you and allow you to step into it gracefully.
When this state of abundance and joy was unlocked for me, I found a vigor for life that I never had. My depression slipped away, and was replaced with a joy that never died down. And when I do end up getting in my own way, I know my joy is always right there with me, I just need to get out of my own way.
These are just some of the reasons how my life changed by being life coached. Now, I have the honor to say that my life coaching business has helped the lives of others.
