On Friday, April 19th, 2019, I became a certified ICF life coach! This was a major accomplishment for me. It took hours upon hours of studying and hours of paid coaching to become certified.
Because of that accomplishment, I just wanted to talk about my journey and how I started life coaching in Orlando.
I moved to Orlando, Fl when I was three years old and have been here ever since. I went to the University of Central Florida and graduated with a Creative Writing Degree. Now, I currently live in Orlando with my fiance and my son.
I got my first taste of life coaching in Orlando as well. As soon as I graduated from college I ran into a life coach, signed up, and transformed my life. Now, I feel like everyone should have one.
Now, it’s my turn to help facilitate the space to transform others. My life coaching journey has been everything I wanted and more. Here are some highlights of my coaching journey so far.
First Paid Client
This is always a big moment for any business out there. when someone is willing to give you their hard-earned money for your service, it means something. It means everything.
I remember feeling like, okay, I can do this. I knew that life coaching was something that I wanted to do, but when I got paid to do it for the first time, I knew it was something that I could make a living from. Being able to make a living by doing what you love is an amazing feeling. It’s something that I preach to everyone, especially my clients, and living it out myself is an amazing feeling.
I’m really hoping that I can be a role model for other people out there that are having a hard time living out their dreams, wondering if they should quit, or if they can do it. I beg you, don’t quit. Keep going, you’ll make it.
The First Client To Tell Me I Changed Their Life
This is the most special moment for me. Yes, it was a paradigm shift understanding that this is something I could get paid for, but after coaching a few clients and hearing feedback and reviews from them, understanding that I was making a huge difference in people’s lives was so amazing.
With everything I do in my life, I’m always trying to have an impact, and I’ve been lucky to be able to do so with my poetry, and my books, but I feel like when it comes to coaching, it’s so much deeper than those other avenues. Or maybe it’s because I’m present with my clients in their sessions, and don’t necessarily share that same space with them when people read my books or listen to my poems. Regardless, the level of which I’m able to help people with coaching is so amazing, especially considering that’s why I started this.
I myself got coached for a couple of years, which is the reason why I began coaching in the first place. Now that it’s all come full circle is amazing.
Becoming A Certified Life Coach
When I first started coaching, I didn’t know if I was going to get my certification. In the life coaching field, it’s not necessary to get your certification. There are plenty of coaches out there that don’t have their certification that are amazing coaches. But, when it comes to my craft, whether it’s coaching, or writing, I like to master what I’m doing.
I felt like I owed it to my clients and myself to invest in my craft and learn what it means to be a coach.
I went through a program that took me a year to get certified called Coach Training World. It was an amazing experience and I learned so much. If you are an aspiring coach yourself, I would recommend you sign up for Coach Training World, it’s definitely worth the money. You get a lot of training, you get to join an amazing community of coaches, and it perfectly sets you up to pass the ICF certification exam.
Once I got certified it felt like I truly took my craft to the next level and it was an amazing accomplishment for me.
Being Awarded the CF Impact Grant
Having cystic fibrosis has always been one of the hardest things I’ve had to deal with in my life. Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disorder with a life expectancy in the forties, and it’s been something that I’ve always felt ashamed about and guilty to express until recently.
I finally opened up about it and began to express it in my spoken word poetry. After that, my advocacy started to mean even more to me when I realized it was affecting people.
I decided to apply for the CF Impact Grant. The CF Foundation awards it to people and businesses who have an idea that can help the CF community.
When I got awarded that grant for my life coaching services, it meant the world to me. I’ve always wanted to give back to the CF community, and now I can do it through my coaching.
If you have CF or your an immediate family member of someone with CF, contact me! I can life coach you for free!
My coaching journey has been going well, and I can’t wait to see how it expands from Orlando, to beyond!
"Trying" isn't a reality. The way we see trying right now doesn't make sense. We see it as the process of doing something. But in reality, we're either doing something or we're not. There's never a process in "trying". We create this grey area so that we can convince...
It's hard to tell our Truth. It's hard to open up to someone, especially if that person is close to us. Fear runs through us at the thought of resistance. The fear that the other person won't listen, or worse, will listen, disagree with what we say, halts us from...
A lot of people talk to me about relationships. It makes sense, relationships are one of the most important aspects of our lives. When people usually talk to me about relationships, they usually are mentioning where their relationships are going wrong. Somebody has...
